With honours (1994, Alek Keshishian)
What IMDB says:
Convinced his thesis will have him graduate with honors from Harvard University, a stuffy student finds himself at the mercy of a homeless man’s demands when he holds the papers hostage.
What I say:
With Honours is basically a cautionary tale about why backing up your work is so important. Unfortunately for Monty, played by Brendan Fraser, the cloud does not exist in 1994, and when his old-ass computer bites the dust he loses his thesis paper. He has the first ten chapters, the first is memorized, (whoop-de-frigging-do), but he drops them through a grate and they end up in the boiler room of the library.
Instead of fighting mummies, Fraser fights a homeless Joe Pesci for his thesis. Pesci plays Simon Wilder, who is living in the boiler room, which Monty gets him kicked out of, a real dick move. Simon proves to be funny and smart.
Monty, reluctantly, learns a lot of life lessons from Simon, while trying to get his lame thesis back. Unfortunately, Simon is sick from years of asbestos inhalation. The relationship formed between Monty and Simon is touching. Simon finds the son he regrets leaving in Monty, and Monty gains a father in Simon. Monty is forever altered by the influence of Simon, which leads him to not hand in his beloved shitty thesis on time, therefore not graduating with honours, but with honour. LAME!
But, really, this movie had me crying big time, especially when Simon dies. That’s right, just like Yoda he kicks the bucket. I saw this movie when I was younger and remember really liking it. I recommend it, especially if you want to see Brendan Fraser in a lot of Harvard garb, almost everything he owns says Harvard on it. Dude, we get it, you go to Harvard. #geek
Quotable line: “Your cock is a lot cleaner than your bum!” Words to live by, really.
With Honours receives 4 crappy thesis papers out of a possible 5.
